Does Jesus ever hate?

How many times have you heard people say Jesus is all about love.  He doesn't hate anything.  Do you think that is true?  As always I look to Scripture to see if it is true.

Here are two examples that I found in the second chapter of Revelation.

Revelation 2:1-6(NKJV)
“To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:
“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;
and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.
Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

Revelation 2:15-16(NKJV)
Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

Genealogies

I just don't get the point of some of the genealogy listing in the Old Testament.  The genealogy of Jesus?  Yes that is important.  I get that one.  But I'm in Genesis 36 and it is the genalogy of Esau.  Here is just a bit of it.

Genesis 36:1-13(NKJV)
Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom.
Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;
and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.
Now Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, and Basemath bore Reuel.
And Aholibamah bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.
Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother Jacob.
For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together, and the land where they were strangers could not support them because of their livestock.
So Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom.
And this is the genealogy of Esau the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.
These were the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, and Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau.
And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.
These were the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.

Here is what I got out of all of that.  Esau is Edom.  So for the rest of my readings in Scripture I know that Esau was the father of the country of Edom.   As far as the rest of it.  I just don't see why I needed to read about all of his kids, who they married and who they begot.  I doubt if many of them are ever mentioned again in Scripture.

I've always found this passage a bit confusing.

I get the first three.  The Father (God), the Word (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (the Holy Spirit).  But what about three?  The Spirit, the Water, and the Blood.

1 John 5:6-8(NKJV)
This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

Great simple advice!

I really don't have anything to add.  God makes it pretty simple.

1 John 4:1-3(NKJV)
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

Why didn't Jacob just put his faith in God?

In Genesis 32 we have the story of Jacob return from his 20 years in Laban's household.  Jacob is traveling home with his wives, children, and great heads of goats, sheep, and camels.  As he approaches Edom, the country where his brother Esau lives Jacob becomes fearful.

He fears that Esau is coming out to meet him and Jacobs thinks Esau means to do him harm.  So what does he do?  He comes up with a plan to appease Esau with gifts and Jacob sends those gifts to Esau in stages.

Here is my question.  Why didn't Jacob just put all of his trust in God?  God told Jacob to go home and God said he would protect him.  And yet in his moment of fear, Jacob resorts to his own devices instead of just trusting God.

What an odd thing to say.

Check this out.

Genesis 31:42(NKJV)
Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night.”

Genesis 31:53(NKJV)
The God of Abraham, the God of Nahor, and the God of their father judge between us.” And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

The fear of Isaac?  He uses the phrase twice.  I don't get it.  What exactly is he referring too?  As I recall when they parted Isaac and Jacob were on good terms.  So why "the fear of Isaac"?

Hmm.  Something to ponder.
