Talk about
perseverance and endurance. How would
you feel if you were tasked by God to do this?
To go out and spread God's Word and have it continually ignored!
Jeremiah 25:3-7(NKJV)
3“From the thirteenth year of Josiah the
son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, this is the twenty-third year in which the word of the Lord
has come to me; and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, but you
have not listened.
4And the Lord has sent to you all His
servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to
hear.
5They said, ‘Repent now everyone of his
evil way and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the Lord has
given to you and your fathers forever and ever.
6Do not go after other gods to serve them
and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands;
and I will not harm you.’
7Yet you have not listened to Me,” says
the Lord, “that you might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands
to your own hurt.
Well guess
what? That is exactly what we have been
tasked to do! It's called the Great
Commission! We are called to do that for
the rest of our lives once we accept Christ.
And yes, many will ignore us. So what!? We are simply given the task of being obedient to God by spreading the Word. No where in the Bible does it say that we are responsible for the outcome.
That thought right there changed the way I thought about these verses. When I first read it, I thought about the frustration that Jeremiah must have felt. But then it occurred to me. If I were to feel frustration in that same situation it would be because I was focusing on the wrong thing.
If God isn't holding us responsible for the outcome then we sure as heck don't need to be bringing that on ourselves. Focus on the obedience to God instead and I think you will find the journey more fulfilling.
