I love the picture
that these verses paint. We all start
out as babes in the Word of God. As we
know, babies have to start life by getting their nourishment from milk. They have to grow for a few months before
they are introduced to real food.
Although we call it
real food, baby food isn't what a mature person would choose to eat but it is a
step up from milk for babies. Then over
time as we mature we move up to hot dogs and bologna sandwiches and pizza. And eventually things like steak and lobster.
Unfortunately not
everyone matures past the baby state in the Lord. Some people stay spiritual babies their
entire lives. Others mature. What is the difference? The amount of work you put into your
relationship with God. For example you
have people who only go to church on Christmas and Easter. You have other people who are in the word
daily. Which one do you think is getting
spiritual milk and which one is getting steak and eggs?
In my opinion It all
starts with asking Jesus to come into your life and lead. Have you done that yet? If not then why not now. Just have a conversation with Jesus. "Dear Jesus…."
Hebrews 5:12-14(NKJV)
For though by this
time you ought to be teachers, you need someone
to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have
come to need milk and not solid food.
For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of
righteousness, for he is a babe.
But solid food belongs to those
who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised
to discern both good and evil.
