We've all
experienced people that can go on so long with their prayers that you fall
asleep right? Some people like to list
everything they need. Some like to go
over and over and over the list with God.
Some pray for the same thing every day as if God forgot what they prayed
for yesterday. And one of my personal
favorites are those that ask for things then go to Scripture in their prayer to
remind God what He had promised them, as if God forgot.
Did Jesus give us
any guidance in this area?
Matthew 6:7(NKJV)
7And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will
be heard for their many words.
My
interpretation? Jesus is saying
"Get to the point!". Brevity
is good. God already knows what you need
anyway so you don't need to go on and on.
In fact I have a suggestion. All
of that time saved from long winded prayers could probably be better used to
just sit and listen for what God would like to say to you. Give it a try!
