I've always found
this story a bit odd. It almost seems to
me that Jesus was going to refuse to help her because "she was one of
those people". She even seems to "recognize
her place" in her response to Jesus.
Her faith wins Him over and he eventually helps her even though she is
"one of those people".
I must admit that I find Jesus acknowledging the distinction and difference really weird. Him calling this woman a "dog" just doesn't fit the vision I have of Jesus.

Mark 7:27-29(NKJV)
But Jesus said to
her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the
children’s bread and throw it to
the little dogs.”
And she answered and
said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the
children’s crumbs.”
Then He said to
her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your
daughter.”
