I believe that one
of the reasons that we need discernment is to be able to tell folksy human
beliefs from actual Scriptural principals.
Here is an example.
James 5:19-20(NKJV)
Brethren, if anyone
among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,
let him know that he who turns a
sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a
multitude of sins.
OK, I get the
concept but it isn't true Scripturally.
Leading people to Christ doesn't cover a multitude of sins. It doesn't even cover 1 sin. The only thing that covers our sins is the
blood that Jesus shed on our behalf.
Scripture is very clear on that point.
Once we are saved,
leading others to Christ will increase our rewards in Heaven but it does
absolutely nothing to cover our sins.
