Have you
ever watched any of the extreme makeover shows?
With a wife and a daughter I have to admit that I've seen more than my
share. I was quite often amazed at the
transformations that took place. Whether
buildings or people, these makeovers could be life changing events.
One of the
shows I found interesting was the one where a woman was nominated for a
makeover. Now the person that was
nominated may not have even wanted or thought she needed a makeover. She was perfectly happy and contented in her
life. But her friends recognized the
need and nominated her. By the end of
the show, even the ones who perfectly content and didn't think they needed a
makeover, were overjoyed at the results.
It was a life changing event.
I was reminded of
all that when I read this scripture.
Zechariah 3:1-5(NKJV)
1Then he showed me Joshua the high priest
standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right
hand to oppose him.
2And the Lord said to Satan,
“The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke
you! Is this not a brand plucked
from the fire?”
3Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing
before the Angel.
4Then He answered and spoke to those who
stood before Him, saying, “Take
away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed
your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”
5And I said, “Let them put a clean turban
on his head.” So they put
a clean turban on his head, and they put the clothes on him. And the
Angel of the Lord stood by.
What a
great way to illustrate the extreme makeover God can bless each and every one
of us with. When we accept Jesus as our
Savior it's as if God is stripping away the filthy garment that is our life
without Jesus. In its place we are
clothed with the rich robes of a life lived for Christ! How cool is that? Extreme makeover, God style!
Have you
had your extreme makeover yet? Have you
asked Jesus to come into your life? It's
easy to do. Just close your eyes and say
a little prayer and ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life. If you do that then you too can be clothed in
the rich robes of a life lived for Jesus.
Remember
above where I mentioned that some of the women didn't even think they wanted or
needed a makeover? Remember that the
next time you are hesitant to share the Gospel with someone because you don't
think they would be interested because the already have it all together. Our job is to nominate them so to speak. It's up to them to decide if they want to
accept the makeover.
As you know, I love the makeover shows... One thing that also goes with this is that usually, the person nominated, when approached about the makeover, is told that if they accept to proceed with the makeover, they will receive, for example, $5k towards a new wardrobe, but that they have to hand over complete control during the journey in order to reach the end result. They recognize that it may not be easy or fun, but there will be a great reward. This is just like Christ. We know that it may not be easy and we have to surrender our lives completely to God but we know that the result is worth all of the trials we may face.
ReplyDeleteWe have the choice to accept the blessing or reject it.
Great insight Leah!
