Has the Lord Called You to do Something - Great or Small?

Has the Lord called you to do something -great or small?  Has He planted an idea in your brain?  Planted a desire in your heart?  Is there something that God wants you to do but you’re a bit hesitant or afraid to do?  If so let me bring a couple of His promises to your attention.

This story comes from the book of Haggai.  Haggai was a prophet to Judah around 520 BC.  The first Israelites have just returned from the Babylonian exile and God has told Zerubbabel and Joshua to rebuild the temple.  Take a look.

Haggai 2:4(NKJV)
4Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the Lord; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the Lord, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ says the Lord of hosts.

God has called them to do something great and He tells them to be strong.  What does He mean by that?  Let's take a look at the definition of strong.

strong
  1. having, showing, or able to exert great bodily or muscular power; physically vigorous or robust: a strong boy.
  1. accompanied or delivered by great physical, mechanical, etc., power or force: a strong handshake; With one strong blow the machine stamped out a fender.
  2. mentally powerful or vigorous: He may be old, but his mind is still strong.
  1. especially able, competent, or powerful in a specific field or respect: She's very strong in mathematics. He's weak at bat, but he's a strong fielder.
  2. of great moral power, firmness, or courage: strong under temptation.

When God calls us to do things for Him, especially when those things are a bit scary, He is telling us in advance that we are going to need strength.  It may be physical strength, mental strength, the strength of our skill set, and moral strength.  We may need one, two, or quite probably a combination of all of them to fulfill the purpose to which God has called us.

Notice the way it is worded.  God doesn't tell them that He will give them strength.  I believe He is telling them to find that within themselves.  If God has called you to do something and you are afraid, don't be.  Why?

Because first of all I don't believe God would have called you if He didn't think you were up to the task.  You can pray about it all you want but sometimes you just have to flat out have the guts to step up to the plate!  You have to be strong.  Now what is God's promise if He called you and you are strong?  God says "for I am with you"!  And what do we know from Scripture?  If God is with us who can be against us, correct?  So there is God's first promise if He has called you.  He will be with you!

Tomorrow I'll share the second promise.

You want to know what else takes some strength?  Accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  It takes strength to surrender your life to God through Jesus.  But you know what?  God's promise is the same.  If you will accept Jesus, God will be with you.  Have you been feeling God tugging at your heartstrings?  If so then what are you waiting for?  Have the guts to step up to the plate and ask Jesus into your life.  You already know that if you do, God will be with you.  Go ahead and accept Jesus today and then come back tomorrow and see what the other promise is!

  1. It's so encouraging knowing that when he feel called to do something, if we take that leap of faith and find our strength, God will bless us. Following God's calling is an exciting thing, and there's no reason to see it as a scary thing.

  2. One of the most exciting things in our walk with God is change. People need to ebrace change instead of fearing it.
