Why Is That?

Joshua 24:31(NKJV)
31Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had known all the works of the Lord which He had done for Israel.

And then they started to fall away.  It's a cycle that repeats itself over and over and over again.  Why do you think that is?  Here is my guess.  It has to do with the personal witness and experience.

In court the most persuasive testimony is the eye witness.  They were there.  They saw it happen.  So all you have to do is listen to them and decide if you believe them or not.  The farther removed you are from the eye witness testimony, the easier it is to doubt, to question.

It's no different with our faith.  As we read about these things in the Bible it can be easy to question because after all, we don't know these people.  If it had been us or our parents that had been the eye witnesses we would be much less likely to doubt.  Does that make sense?

That is why the personal relationship with Jesus is so important.  Once you accept Christ and begin to build that relationship with Him, we are no longer taking someone else's testimony about Him.   We know Him personally and it makes it so much easier to keep the faith.

How about you?  Do you have that personal relationship with Jesus yet?  All it takes is a simple prayer asking him lead and guide your life.  Go ahead, have a conversation with Jesus.  It's easy.  "Dear Jesus…"

  1. I believe its also why personal testimony can be so powerful.

  2. Instead of memorizing a bunch of Scripture and beating people over the head with a Bible, I believe that if we all just shared from our hearts what God has done in our lives we would be a lot more successful in our outreach efforts.

    Thanks for sharing!
