There seems to be
this dual message in the Bible regarding wealth and the enjoyment of
wealth. We are all familiar with the
camel through the eye of a needle analogy.
There are several other Scriptures that can be quoted that make it seem
that being wealthy is evil.
But on the other
hand there are Scriptures like this.
Ecclesiastes 5:18-19(NKJV)
18Here is what I have seen: It is good and fitting for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the
good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life
which God gives him; for it is his
heritage.
19As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth,
and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his
labor—this is the gift of God.
So here we have King
Solomon saying that for every man to whom God has given wealth and the ability
to enjoy it, that is a gift from God.
So my question is,
does God give evil gifts? Does that
sound like something a loving and just God would do? Or is it possible that we have misunderstood
what some of those other verses regarding the wealthy mean?
