I love the way Jesus
deals with those who oppose Him. Notice
that Jesus doesn't soften His message and tell them that it will all be OK
whether they believe Him or not. Nope. Jesus doesn't do that. What does Jesus do? He takes them head on!
Luke 11:39-45(NKJV)
Then the Lord said
to him, “Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but
your inward part is full of greed and wickedness.
Foolish ones! Did
not He who made the outside make the inside also?
But rather give alms
of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you.
“But woe to you
Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by
justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the
others undone.
Woe to you
Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the
marketplaces.
Woe to
you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like graves which are
not seen, and the men who walk over them
are not aware of them.”
Then one of the
lawyers answered and said to Him, “Teacher, by saying these things You reproach
us also.”
So many in
Christianity today go out of their way to avoid offending as if offending all
by itself is "unChristian".
Well here is a question. If Jesus
Christ Himself on occasion purposely offended to get His message across then
how can it be "unChristian'?
Now mind you I'm not saying we should go around offending people all the time on purpose just for the fun of it. I'm just saying that the modern Christian reflexive angst about giving offense to anyone is wrong. We should not soften the message of Christ just to avoid offending. Jesus didn't do it and neither should we. Make sense?
