We've all heard of
the feud between the Hatfield's and the McCoy's. What I didn't realize was that there was a
similar thing going on in the Old Testament.
Take a look.
1 Chronicles 20:4(NKJV)
4Now it happened afterward that war broke
out at Gezer with the Philistines, at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite
killed £Sippai, who was one of the sons of the giant. And they
were subdued.
1 Chronicles 20:5(NKJV)
5Again there was war with the Philistines,
and Elhanan the son of £Jair
killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
1 Chronicles 20:6-8(NKJV)
6Yet again there was war at Gath, where
there was a man of great stature,
with twenty-four fingers and toes, six on
each hand and six on each foot;
and he also was born to the giant.
7So when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son
of £Shimea, David’s brother,
killed him.
8These were born to the giant in Gath, and
they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
We all know the
story of David and Goliath. What I
didn't realize was that it developed into a long running feud between David and
his relatives and Goliath and his relatives.
As the Old Testament tells us in Ecclesiastes, there is nothing new under the sun!
