What about the wrath of the Lamb???

We hear a lot about the love of Jesus.  But what about the wrath of Jesus?  As I have written before, I can't find anything in Scripture that backs up the view of Kumbaya Jesus.  Take a look at the passage below and I will pick it up on the other side.

Revelation 6:9-17(NKJV)
When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.
And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.
I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood.
And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.
Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.
And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains,
and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

Couple things about the first part that I highlighted.  In Chapter 6 the riders on horseback are being unleashed on the earth.  God ordained it and Jesus sets the events in motion.  Part of God's plan is that a quarter of the world's population be wiped out.  Killed.  Destroyed.

Then the martyred saints start asking God, when are you going to avenge our deaths?  God tells them, in a bit, but all of these other people have to die first.

Wow!  Not much Kumbaya and love your enemy there, is there?  Should people be surprised by that?  Not if they have been reading their Bibles.  No surprise for the people who read and understand Scripture instead of substituting their own beliefs, like kumbaya Jesus, for what Scripture really says.

The second highlighted part is what really jumped out at me today though.  The wrath of the Lamb.  In other words, Jesus is pissed!!!  No kumbaya and love for your enemy here either is there?

And once again, should we be surprised?

Matthew 10:34-39(NKJV)
“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’;
and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’
He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

Again, not if you understand Scripture.  Jesus told us His purpose in Matthew.  He came to make people choose.  Choose life by believing in Jesus and God's plan or choose death by rejecting Jesus and God's plan.

But why is Jesus pissed?  Why has He stored up wrath?  My guess is that He takes it personally when people reject the sacrifice that He made on their behalf.

Now let's circle back to a glib comment I made earlier.  No love the enemy here.  Actually there is plenty of love your enemy, just not in the way most people think about it in my opinion.  First off remember that the enemies of God have declared themselves enemies by rejecting Jesus.  It is something that they had total control over.  So those who whine it isn't fair, baloney, it is totally fair.

Here is where Jesus and God show love for their enemies.  They love their enemies enough that they will let them repent and follow Jesus any time they want.  God and Jesus will welcome them back with open and loving arms…..right up until the enemy dies.  But at that point, it is too late.  At that point Jesus has something for them.  Something that He has stored up and saved for them.  His wrath!

Now I don't know about you but that is something I never want to face and the really cool thing is I never have to because I asked Jesus into my life almost half a century ago.  How about you?  Would you like to know that you will never face His wrath?  All you have to do is ask Jesus to lead you.  Have a talk with Jesus.  Let Him know where you are at in life and that you would like His help.  "Dear Jesus…."
